Cost Accountant

Job Summary and Mission

The Cost Accountant is a new role in a dynamic, growing finance team within our rapidly expanding organization. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who wants new challenges and responsibilities as they grow with the Company. The successful candidate should be excited to enhance the D365 Cost Accounting systems, tools and processes to support financial planning, forecasts, variance analysis and decision support, and take a hands-on lead role in these projects. We are looking for someone strong in Excel and ERP systems who loves tracking process, costs, activities and reporting on variances that provide insight into the performance of our operations. This function would directly support the manufacturing and supply chain teams and would communicate with the product development team for new assembly bill of materials.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop into a production SME for our new D365 ERP (implemented April 2020)
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of cost data for material, labor overhead and outside processing costs
  • Update new part numbers with cost attributes and values
  • Run weekly inventory reports used to support the manufacturing team
  • Participate in projects and assignments as needed to support the goals of the department
  • Assist in the monthly close process:
    • Reconcile inventory accounts
    • Analyze Purchase Price Variance, Invoice Price Variance and WIP Material Variance
    • Prepare financial reports to be used by the finance and manufacturing teams
    • Assist department managers in reviewing monthly department spending and analyzing against prior month, prior year, and forecasted spending
    • Prepare adjusting journal entries as necessary
  • Provide assistance with the maintenance of accounting systems and processes. Contributing ideas and innovations to improve existing systems, processes and procedures affecting month-end financial close, account analysis preparation, financial reports and manufacturing processes.
  • Research questions from other members of the finance team and business partners in a timely and concise manner.
  • Perform weekly audits of costs changes and perform updates as necessary
  • Assist in physical inventory counts and cycle counting approvals
  • Assist in the annual cost update and budgeting process
  • Assist in maintenance of capital projects by monitoring the progress of projects and investigating variances against the project plan

Qualifications

Summary of Experience

  • General accounting experience at a professional level
  • 2+ years of experience at a manufacturing company and/or public accounting experience with manufacturing clients
  • BA/BS; Accounting, Economics, or Finance
  • Years of direct manufacturing and costing experience will waive BA requirement

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Detail oriented with knowledge of accounting systems and processes
  • Ability to prioritize, communicate, and drive change
  • Ability to assist in problem-solving
  • Evidence of personal and professional energy and excellence
  • Enjoys working with people in other areas of the organization
  • D365 experience preferred
